The journey I'm watching closely: Rivers & Rails of Africa
AmaWaterways — one of the river cruise lines I know best — has built exactly the kind of layered South African journey I'd design myself: days in Cape Town, a four-night safari cruise aboard the Zambezi Queen on the Chobe River, Victoria Falls, and a final leg aboard Rovos Rail, the legendary luxury train, on the run between Cape Town and Johannesburg. It's a thirteen-night program, running seasonally through the year, and it's the closest thing to my own river cruise instinct applied to land and safari.
Building your own version
